India vs England 2018, 1st T20I – Statistical Highlights

Riding on brilliant individual performances from KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav, India began their long tour of England with a thumping 8-wicket win in the first T20I. Bowling first, India restricted the hosts to a modest 159 for 8.
Kuldeep Yadav was the star of the show, taking his career-best 5 for 24 including three in an over. Jos Buttler waged a lone battle for the hosts, scoring 69.
In reply, India romped home with 10 balls to spare. The visitors were off to a poor start. Shikhar Dhawan departed in the very first over. However, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul added 123 runs for the second wicket to all but end England’s hopes. Rahul went on to complete his ton off 53 balls. He and Virat Kohli then took the team home with utmost ease.
With the game now done and dusted, here is a look at some interesting numbers and stats:
1. Kuldeep Yadav became the first chinaman bowler in the T20I history to take a 5-wicket haul. He finished the game with stunning figures of 5 for 24.
2. The game witnessed only the second instance of a century and a 5-wicket haul in the same T20I game. The first such instance was witnessed when South Africa beat West Indies in 2015. Morne van Wyk had scored 114* and David Wiese had taken 5 for 23.
3. This was Rahul’s second T20I century while chasing. It made him the first player to score multiple centuries while chasing. He had scored his first century in a losing cause against West Indies in 2016.
4. The win ended India’s 5-match losing streak in the T20I format in England. This is also India’s first win in four T20Is against England on their soil.
5. The win is India’s 7th consecutive win in the T20I cricket as they equalled their joint longest streak in this format. India won seven T20Is in a row in 2016 and also between 2012 and 2014.
6. Eoin Morgan is now the most capped England skipper in the T20I cricket. It was his 31st T20I as captain, helping him go past Paul Collingwood’s 30 matches.
7. Virat Kohli became the 4th player and the first Indian to score 2000 runs in the T20I cricket. He is the fastest to reach the milestone taking 56 innings.
8. MS Dhoni now holds the record of most stumping in the shortest format of the game. He took his tally to 33 in the game, thus going past Kamran Akmal’s 32 stumping.
