Hameed was set to return home for a surgery on his badly broken left little finger which will see him have a plate inserted into his hand.
The 19-year-old batted bravely for nearly three hours in the third Test
defeat to India by eight wickets despite the injury, finishing unbeaten on 59. He might be out of action for some time but England has surely found a gem.
