India resumed their innings on 319/4 on day 4.
As Amit Mishra was dismissed on the last ball yesterday, Ajinkya
Rahane walked in with Virat Kohli.
Both started with solid defense and rotated the strike taking ones
and two. But soon Adil Rashid with his leg spin went through Rahane’s
defense who miss-judged the length.
The ball just clipped the bails and down they went in a flash.
After his wicket walked in the World’s no 1 all-arounder R Ashwin.
He along with Kohli looked to build a promising partnership.
Ashwin was timing the ball really well, which earned him few boundaries.
Just as the partnership was growing a very unusual thing happened.
Virat Kohli while using the crease stepped on to his leg stump and the
very calmly the bail fell down.
Bairstow noticed it and went for the appeal.
Umpire reviewed it and it shows the same. Kohli looks disgusted but started walking back.
India were still far behind England’s score and it looked difficult to
even get close to it now.
Walked in Wriddhiman Saha who looked shaky in the beginning.
But Now Ashwin took the responsibly in his hand.
He stitched a 50 run partnership with Saha before lunch.
After Lunch, Both the batsman looked to cut down the difference in score between the two teams.
But just as things looked better Saha edged a ball into Bairstow’s glove.
After his wicket it looked like India’s downfall had started and the
innings would end soon.
But Ashwin had some other plans. He started playing most of the balls.
Knocking around he looked in very fine touch and soon completed his fifty.
His partner Jadeja hit a huge six and looked to play attacking.
But Rashid again with an unusual bounce dismissed Jadeja.
Ashwin seeing his partners losing their wicket at the other end
started playing some attacking cricket.Umesh Yadav came in hit a few and left in usual tailender style. Ashwin was left with the last wicket
Shami to work with.
He showed his smartness by playing most of the over and taking single
on the last ball.
Seeing its the last wicket he decided to go for few shots and he
connected them well too.
Chicky at times by hitting over keeper,
He managed to hit a number of boundaries.
Shami too contributed with a huge six but then England made things
tight and Ashwin wasn’t able to play as planned.
Seeing most of the fielders inside the circle he decided to go over
the infield but unlucky for him was caught by a man in the deep.
With him getting out, India’s innings ended on 488.
But thanks to Ashwin because of his special knock of 70 England just
got a minor lead of 49 for what could have been more than 100.
Surely he was the performer of the day.Rashid, on the other hand, was impressive too with his 4 wickets and
ended the day on a high for him.
England, on the other hand, played brilliantly in their 2nd Innings with
the Hameed the debutant impressing all.
He even scored a scintillating 50 and looks set for a big one.
At the end of the day, England is 114/0.
