India vs England Third Test Day 4: Four Talking Points!

It was a wonderful day for India as they went on to take a 2-0 lead in the 5 match Test series against England. India excelled with the ball and the bat as England looked dull throughout the match.

England’s target of 103 runs was easily chased down by the Indian batsmen with 8 wickets in hand with Parthiv Patel unbeaten at the crease on 67 runs.

Here are 4 talking points of the day :

Haseeb Hameed’s impressive knock : Youngster Haseeb Hameed played a wonderful innings of 59 runs and was unbeaten at the crease until the end though England lost the 3rd test at Mohali by 8 wickets. Hameed took 156 deliveries en-route to his 59 and tried his heart out to save the match for England. But apart from Chris Woakes none of the England batsmen supported him and the England batting order collapsed at a score of 236 runs giving India 103 runs to chase.

English batting order collapse : The England batting order could not build a good lead as they came out to bat at 78/4 at the start of day 4 with Joe Root still at the crease. Despite great efforts from Joe Root, Haseeb Hameed and Chris Woakes none of the English players could keep a partnership going which would have resulted in a healthy lead for England. Joe Root top scored with 78 while Hameed was unbeaten until the end with 59 runs.

Wonderful performance by Indian spinners : Indian spinners Jayant Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja both bowled well and picked up two wickets each as India won the match comfortably at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. Ravindra Jadeja picked up an important wicket of Joe Root on day 4 along with Gareth Batty’s wicket whereas Jayant Yadav picked up Joss Buttler for 18. Ravichandran Ashwin also had a good innings as he picked up 3 wickets earlier on day 3.

Parthiv Patel’s match winning innings : India had a low total to chase but they still had to go on the pitch and do it. Chasing 104 runs Murali Vijay went back early without getting off the mark but Indian wicketkeeper who has made a comeback into the Indian team after 8 years showed why he was called back. He stayed not out at 67 as India beat England by 8 wickets on the fourth day of the 3rd Test match at Mohali on Tuesday. His innings included 11 fours and one six as the little man took just 54 balls to reach that score.
