India vs New Zealand 2019: Bhuvneshwar Kumar Sheds Light on Bowling Alongside Mohammed Shami

Indian National Cricket Team pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who’s getting back into the rhythm has effusively praised his bowling partner Mohammed Shami. He reiterated that there is no pressure mounting upon him as Shami came off from the excellent outing in the Test fold against Australia. Bhuvneshwar, who’s enjoying his bowling alongside Shami, added his partner has been delivering goods in the away conditions. Both have done their job in ongoing India vs New Zealand 2019 series.

Concurrently, India is in New Zealand, and the team has sealed the five-match One-day International series 3-0 with two games still left. The Men in Blue clinched the third ODI by seven wickets and seven overs to spare, as Shami bagged Man of the Match for his three for 41 in nine overs at The Bay Oval.

“Did not feel any pressure. I know Shami is in good form with the Test form and he is always good in overseas conditions. Bowling with Shami has been a good experience,” Bhuvneshwar told broadcasting giant Star Sports.

The prominent bowler Bhuvneshwar, who has 111 wickets to his name in 101 ODIs, relies on his swing bowling. However, he admitted the fact by saying the if the conditions are not suitable for the swing bowling, he focuses on his basics, in a bid to force the batsman to make a mistake.

“When it comes to swing, yes I am a swing bowler. But if the conditions are not swing-friendly, I try to bowl as straight as possible to make the batsman make a mistake and give me the wicket,” Bhuvneshwar said.

The 28-year-old Uttar Pradesh-based right-arm fast bowler Bhuvneshwar maintained he is solely aiming to stem the run flow if the ball is not doing a bit. He believes it allows his partner to fill in the wickets column.

While having a world on explosive Kiwis opener Colin Munro, Bhuvneshwar stated they had chalked out the plan for him, but he couldn’t do much in the series.

“It is about partnership, if you bowl dot balls, the other bowler can get the wicket as well. So if the ball is not swinging, my motive is to bowl dot deliveries. We expected Munro to come really hard at us, we had our plans but unfortunately he couldn’t fire much,” he added,” Bhuvneshwar added during the post-show on Monday.

The duo has shared eleven wickets in first three ODIs against the Black Caps. Shami, who second on the list of the most wicket takers in the ongoing series, has claimed seven wickets, whereas, Bhuvneshwar managed to eke out four wickets. Chinman Kuldeep Yadav is sitting on the top of charts with eight scalps.

Bhuvneshwar added the bowlers are supposed to hit the right areas in the overseas conditions. He also feels the away conditions are turning out to be decent for the batting. Adding spinners have done equally well by picking wickets at regular intervals.

“It’s very important for Indian fast bowlers to pick the length to bowl, overseas its different from India. Nowadays wickets overseas are also good for batting. The wrist spinners have done that well too,” Bhuvneshwar added.

While revealing the plans, Bhuvneshwar said he talks through the developments while bowling in tandem with Jasprit Bumrah, early on. He added the inputs from skipper Virat Kohli allows them to pay rich dividends.

“When I bowl with Bumrah, if I bowl the first over, we communicate what is happening with the pitch. We discuss the field placements and all that. Virat Kohli keeps talking to us about this is what the batsman is doing and you can mix up a few things,” Bhuvneshwar signed off.

Following an unassailable lead of 3-0 over the Black Caps, India will take on hosts in Hamilton on January 31.
