India vs New Zealand 2019: Sanjay Bangar Confirms Availability Of MS Dhoni For 5th ODI
After missing a couple of games for Indian National Cricket Team, the former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is all set to return for the final clash in the series. The batting coach Sanjay Bangar confirmed the news in the pre-match press conference on Saturday morning.
The wicketkeeper-batsman had missed the third and the fourth ODI due to a hamstring strain. He trained with the team ahead of the fourth ODI but wasn’t named in the playing XI. However, he recovered fully for the final ODI and was involved in an intense net session.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni had a healthy net session:
In absence of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and also regular skipper Virat Kohli, the entire middle order collapsed after the experienced opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit failed. From Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav to Hardik Pandya, none of the Indian batters showed promise in the middle.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has been in good nick since the ODI series in Australia. Dhoni has shown that he can still finish games with his cool and calm demeanour and also strike the big hits when India setting a target.
It would be interesting to see whether Mahendra Singh Dhoni will replace Dinesh Karthik or Shubman Gill. With Karthik, Jadhav and Rayudu in the scheme of things for World Cup, India might bench Gill. On the other hand, there is a chance that Karthik might be benched to give confidence for the youngster.
Sanjay Bangar is confident of middle-order:
Despite the middle-order failure at Hamilton, the coach Sanjay Bangar expressed his optimism on his players. He believes that it was one of those games, which didn’t go well for the team. Bangar feels that it was an aberration to the rest of the Indian games in the recent past.
Meanwhile, in the bowling section of the game, Indian National Cricket Team might bring back Mohammed Shami, who was rested for the fourth ODI and rest Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has played all four ODIs till now.
