India had an outstanding time in the opener of the five-match One-day International series with the ball in particular. However, as often MS Dhoni has made his presence felt while dictating the terms to the bowlers. And at the McLean Park in Napier on Wednesday (January 23) at the fag end of the innings, spectators witnessed the same. Dhoni had a piece of advice for promising spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who bagged a fourth scalp in the form of Trent Boult.
Former Indian skipper Dhoni again showcased his class owing to the prediction. As often Dhoni has guided the slow bowlers before they fill in their wickets column and such has been an impact of Dhoni.
The incident happened when Kuldeep was getting ready to deliver the final delivery of his quota of the tenth over when Dhoni told him to change the angle.
While referring to the batsman Trent Boult, stump mic revealed Dhoni told Kuldeep: “aankh bandh karke rokega, around the wicket daal (He will shut his eyes to defend, come over the wicket)“.
Kuldeep, who somewhat had shown reluctance before accepting the advice of Dhoni, had no other choice. Interestingly, it eventually paid dividends to the youngster as Boult edged the ball straight into the bucket-like hands of Rohit Sharma, who was stationed at the first slip.
Earlier, after the hosts Kiwis won the toss, India bowled remarkably well. The visitors’ bowlers bundled out the Black Caps on a paltry total of 157 in 38 overs.
For the Kiwis, Williamson was the highest scorer with 81-ball 64 runs.
The wrist-spinner Kuldeep starred with the ball. He claimed four wickets after conceding 39 runs in his quota of 10 overs.
On the other side, Mohammed Shami, who bowled with clinical precision bagged three wickets in just six overs. Besides the 27-year-old Haryana-based leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bagged two wickets.
Pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar who went wicketless conceded 20 runs in his five overs. But Kedar Jadhav who was used as a sixth option bagged all-important wicket of Henry Nicholls.
