Oct 28, 2016 at 3:57 PM
India will take on New Zealand in the 5th ODI at Vizag on Saturday. India lost the fourth ODI by 19 runs after restricting New Zealand to 260 runs but Indian batting unit could not chase down the target despite late efforts from Dhawal Kulkarni and Axar Patel.
Here we look at the likely XI for the 5th and deciding ODI.
- Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has not been in form so far with scores of 14, 15, 13 and 11 in the four matches. With the fifth ODI to be played at Vizag, it will be a great chance for him to score a big inning and give the team flying start.
2. Ajinkya Rahane
In the fourth ODI at Ranchi, Rahane scored a half century but could not convert the half century into a big one. He needs to play aggressive cricket in order to give the team a solid start with Rohit Sharma. If Rahane could provide a good start to the team then India has a chance to score or chase down the target given by New Zealand.
3. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli scored a crucial 45 in the fourth One-day international at Ranchi. He needs to score big in the 5th ODI and help the Indian team to win the series with another superb knock. His ability to convert 50 into big scores will help the team in good stead.
4. MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni came at number 4 in Ranchi but could only score 11 runs. MS Dhoni must play with positive intent and not allow the pressure to get to him. With Vizag to be a batting pitch, MS Dhoni would like to score big .
5. Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey did not contribute to the team’s cause. Indian team was struggling at Ranchi and he was dismissed playing an ambitious stroke. He was caught by Latham for 12. If Manish Pandey needs to stay in the team he must score big in the fifth ODI at Vizag.
6. Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav was dismissed on the first ball in the fourth ODI. He has shown promise with the bat but needs to play proper shots. It will be a big chance for Jadhav to contribute with the bat. With the ball, he has been the star for India. He needs to come up with another good performance in 5th ODI.
7. Axar Patel
Axar Patel was promoted at number 5 in the previous match. He played well with the bat scoring 38 runs but could not take India to win. His contribution with the ball has been good as he gave away 38 runs picking 1 wicket. Axar Patel must again perform well with bat and ball in order to make India win series.
8. Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya did not have a brilliant game in the previous game. He gave too many runs despite picking the important wicket of Guptill. While batting he played a poor stroke. With the series at stake, he needs to come up with the goods. Pandya has the potentials of becoming a good all-rounder but needs to perform well in 5th ODI.
9. Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra has been outstanding in the series. In the previous match, he picked 2 important wickets and gave away 42 runs. Amit Mishra created an important partnership with Axar Patel but was run out at an important moment. If he can continue his brilliant form in Vizag then India can win the series.
10. Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav was expensive in the previous match at Ranchi. He gave away too many runs in the first spell. In total, he gave away 60 runs and picked 1 wicket. Umesh Yadav needs to bowl well in the 5th ODI and help India taking early wickets. He needs to pick wickets with the new ball in order put pressure on New Zealand batting line up.
11. Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah did not play in the fourth ODI because of injury to his shoulder. He would replace Dhawal Kulkarni. His bowling in the series has been outstanding so far. Jasprit Bumrah will be a threat to the New Zealand team and if could perform well India would win the series easily. In the death overs, his performance has been outstanding. He needs to show his class in deciding ODI.
