India Vs New Zealand T20I Likely To Be Moved Out Of Cuttack

India Vs New Zealand T20I Likely To Be Moved Out Of Cuttack

The Barabati Stadium in Cuttack is likely to lose out on an opportunity to host the second T20I between New Zealand and India due to a festival named Bali Yatra. The T20I is to be played on the same day when the festival starts in the city and the state police will not be able to provide security for the game. Hence, in all probability, the game is likely to be moved out of the city or the board has an option to allot the stadium another game during the long home season,

“We will not be able to host the India-New Zealand T20 match in Cuttack on November 4 as Bali yatra starts on the same day this year. We have told the board why we are unable to hold the T20 match between India and New Zealand on November 4. We have sought allotment of any other international match between October end and after November 20,”  Dhiren Palai, Odisha Cricket Association’s ad-hoc Working Committee Chairman said.

The security in Barabati stadium has to be beefed up as in the year 2015, a T20I game between India and South Africa has stopped abruptly due to the intrusion of the public. The people in the stands hurled bottles in the ground after an abysmal show from the Indian team. The game started again after some pause but many questions were raised. The next time when stadium hosted an international game earlier this year against England, no water bottles were allowed inside the ground and security personals were on their toes at all times.

This time though, the state police may not be able to provide the same security measures and in all probability, the game will be moved out and the stadium might be awarded another game from other series.

Indian team is all set to play a record home season from the month of September to December. Australia will be the first team to visit the nation. They will play five ODIs and three T20Is. A three match ODI and T20I series will follow. A complete Test, ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka will mark an end to the long home season, where the Indian team will play 23 home games. Post that, India has a string of overseas tours line-up for the next year, starting from South Africa, which might be curtailed due to scheduling issues.
