India vs NZ Day 4, First Test: Twitter laud R Ashwin as India inch closer to win

The Indian team has taken a firm grip on the first Test against New Zealand after the end of the penultimate day.

Resuming the day on 159 for the loss of 1 wicket, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Murali Vijay could not add only 26 runs before the latter was dismissed for 76. Virat Kohli once again failed with the bat and could score only 18.  Later, half-centuries from Rohit Sharma (68*) and Ravindra Jadeja (50*) propelled India to 377, extending their overall lead to a massive 433.

Chasing such a huge target, the visitors got off to the worst possible start as R Ashwin dismissed  their openers with only 3 on the board. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor then added 40 runs for the third wicket and just when they were looking settled, Ashwin struck once again to dismiss the dangerous Williamson. It was Ashwin’s 200th Test wicket and he has now become the second fastest to take 200 wickets in the longest format of the game. Umesh Yadav piled more misery on the Kiwis when his throw from deep hit the stumps to end Ross Taylor’s stay at the crease. The visitors did not lose another wicket afterwards as Luke Ronchi and Mitchell Santner provided brilliant resistance to finish the day on 93 for 4 still 341 runs behind the target.
