India vs NZ: Will Sanju Samson Play 1st T20I Of The Series? Check out
Rohit Sharma’s return for New Zealand T20Is meant Sanju Samson had to be dropped for the series. The move surprised many but it also gave an opportunity to the youngster to play for India A. He played two matches for the ‘A’ team before replacing Shikhar Dhawan in the T20I squad. Now when he is a part of the national squad, the question arises if he will get a chance in the playing XI.
Going into the first T20I, it is highly unlikely that Samson will get a chance in the playing XI. As per a PTI report, he padded up for the session after regulars and doesn’t seem to be in contrition. Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey and Rishabh Pant batted before Samson, which gives a clear hint that Samson will not be part of playing XI at least in the first T20I.
Although, the team management will surely give him a chance during the series as it’s a mega-series consisting of five matches and regulars are expected to be rested at some point. Samson has only played one T20I since his comeback.
He replaced Rishabh Pant in the playing XI for the third T20I against Sri Lanka. He was later dropped from the squad. In 2019, Samson had made his comeback during the home series against Bangladesh. He sat out for eight months before getting a chance against Sri Lanka.
The 25-year-old made a sparkling comeback by hitting the first ball for a six but was dismissed on the next delivery.
Apart from Samson, Rishabh is also unlikely to be part of playing XI. India skipper Virat Kohli has confirmed that KL Rahul will keep the wickets in the shortest format as well, means Rishabh might sit out as the visiting team might prefer Pandey over him. Iyer is confirmed to keep his place.
The bowling combination is a strong one but the captain will have to pick one pacer between Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur for the first T20I. In the spin department, Kuldeep Yadav should play ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja.
India’s likely playing XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami
