Virat Kohli-led India are now ready for the home T20I challenges against South Africa. From this Sunday (15th September), they will play the three-match T20I series. Ahead of the first T20I at Dharamshala, Kohli has clarified that they keep the same focus in the home or away matches.
Kohli said, “For us as a home team we need to be absolutely sure of our game plan. The way we prepare for overseas series where we have to be very very focussed, it’s the same (for home series). International cricket is about your mindset nowadays.”
Kohli believes that every condition can be the home condition if they feel comfortable. He added that they just wanted to play their best cricket and won the matches.
He added, “Every condition can be home condition if you feel comfortable. I think it’s getting into that frame of mind for us which is very important. That’s why we have been one of the most consistent teams in the last 2-3 years.
“And that’s been the reason because we want to win every game wherever we play whether it’s home, away, any format… we just want to go out there, play our best cricket and win.”
Virat Kohli spoke about India’s plan to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2020
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 is just more than one year away to begin. Australia will host this tournament from 18th October to 15th November 2020.
The no.4-ranked T20I team India are now playing the T20I matches as their preparation for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. Like their previous T20I series against Windies, the selectors have once again given many opportunities to the newcomers in the South Africa series.
Kohli believes that it is the best opportunity for them to set a good team for the next T20 World Cup by trying out various combinations with new players.
He said, “As far as the road map is concerned, whenever there is a world tournament coming up, it is like a milestone and you start preparing from backwards (back calculate matches). I think every team will go though same process before T20 WC.
“These are opportunities where we can try various combinations with new people around — check their ability, character, composure to perform at international level. From that point of view, it is exciting for a captain to try different players and check out combinations. We have all come through that process and I feel happy when I see these new faces emerging, trying to express themselves.”
