The selectors are going to make several changes to India’s T20I team for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. India will host the Proteas for a five-match series next month. The much-awaited series will get underway on June 9 in Delhi and will end with the fifth and final game on June 19 in Bengaluru. India are unlikely to be at their full-strength for the series as several first-choice players will be leaving for England in mid-June for the series against the hosts.

In such a scenario, selectors are set to bring in some new faces in the team. According to reports, fast-bowlers Umran Malik and Mohsin Khan are likely to get their maiden call-ups after impressing in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. Both Malik and Mohsin have impressed one and all with their pace and wicket-taking abilities in the tournament. Malik has constantly touched the 150 kph mark this season and has picked up 23 wickets including a five-wicket haul.

Mohsin has also bowled with fire and has picked up 13 wickets in just 8 games while maintaining a stunning economy-rate of 5.93. Apart from Malik and Mohsin, another uncapped bowler who is in line to earn his maiden call-up is Punjab Kings’ Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm pacer has impressed with his bowling in death overs and his ability to bowl yorkers at will. Young batsman Tilak Verma is also likely to be named in the team.

Playing in his maiden IPL, Verma is the highest-run scorer for Mumbai Indians. The southpaw has scored 376 runs in 13 games and could breach the 400-run mark in his last game. Rohit Sharma has already called him a future all-format player for Team India. With the India captain backing him publicly, he is likely to be named in the team.

Seniors players to return:

Along with the uncapped players, some old-horses will return to the team too, according to a report from The Times of India. Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik is likely earn a recall after his impressive displays in IPL 2022. Karthik has been one of the best finishers of the season and looks set to be a part of Team India for the first time since 2019. Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan is also set to get a recall after last playing a T20I for India in July 2021.
