Many tries were done to start the first T20I match between India and Sri Lanka at Guwahati on last Sunday (5th January) after the rain interrupted the match but unfortunately, the game could not begin because of the irresponsibility of the ground staff. Now, the two teams will head to play the second T20I match in Indore on 7th January.

In the first T20I match at Guwahati, Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bowl first. But the game could not start because soon after the toss it started raining. After one hour of rain, the spectators hoped that the match would start at least but the destiny had other plans. Because of the mistake in covering the area of the pitch, fans had to go with a disappointing face as ultimately no ball was bowled on that night.

Reportedly, covers (which is used to cover the pitch) had a hole through which the water leaked into the pitch so a water patch was formed few meters near the stumps. To dry that damp patch, hairdryer, iron, and vacuum cleaner were used which brought more criticism from the cricket industry. However, no equipment can help to start the first T20I match. After the inspection, the umpire called off the first T20I match.

Now, the T20I series is reduced to two-match series between Virat Kohli-led team India and Lasith Malinga-led team Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, this T20I series is crucial for many Indian cricketers to gain their place in this year’s T20 World Cup squad.
