India vs West Indies 2018: Umesh Yadav Replaces Injured Shardul Thakur For First Two ODIs
Umesh Yadav has replaced injured pacer Shardul Thakur for the first two One-Day Internationals between India and West Indies.
Shardul Thakur was named in India’s squad for the first two ODIs. However, a groin injury which he sustained in his first Test has sidelined him and ruled him out of the first two games. Moments after becoming India’s 294th Test player, Shardul’s debut turned into a nightmare due to the injury. The debutant walked off due to a pain in the groin region and did not take to the field for the entire day and then the game.
The latest injury was yet another setback for Shardul after the Asia Cup disappointment where he had to bail out midway after complaining of a right hip-groin soreness.
Umesh, meanwhile, earned the call after his stunning show in the same Test against West Indies. He delivered a career-best performance to guide India to an emphatic win. The pacer scooped the Man of the Match award for his splendid 10-wicket haul.
He picked up 6 wickets in the first innings to help India bowl out West Indies for 311. In the second essay, he picked up 4 as India bowled out the visitors for just 127. As a result, the hosts had to chase just 72 runs which they did without breaking any sweat.
In the process, Umesh became the third Indian pacer overall to register a 10-wicket haul in Test matches in India. The other two are Javagal Srinath (13/132 vs Pakistan) and Kapil Dev 11/146 vs Pakistan).

With just months remaining before the next World Cup gets underway, Umesh will be looking to deliver a solid performance. He was India’s highest wicket-taker in the 2015 World Cup and a good performance against West Indies will surely put him in contention.
The five-match ODI series start from November 21.
