It will be an opportunity for India to defeat Wes Indies twice in a T20I bilateral series this year when they take on Kieron Pollard and co in Thiruvananthapuram today. West Indies put up a great batting show by scoring 207/5. They also had a chance of defending the total but Virat Kohli’s masterclass proved to be too much for the visitors.
He scored 94* off 50 to push the scoring rate in the middle-overs and in the end, it was an easy win for Men in Blue. KL Rahul also played a crucial role in the chase with an innings of 62 off 40. West Indies’ bowlers failed to do the job as India chased down a huge total to win the opening T20I.
One can expect both the teams to pile up runs at the Greenfield Stadium. There are chances of rain during the match but that is unlikely to have a big impact. India, if chasing, will again be favourite but they have struggled when batting first.
Here are likely playing XI of both the teams –
Indian captain Virat Kohli is likely to retain the same combination means no comeback for Sanju Samson in the playing XI at his home ground. Though he and Manish Pandey might get a chance in the third T20I if India win the series today. Shreyas Iyer might be back at his number four position today.
Playing XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar
West Indies –
Nicholas Pooran will be available for selection after serving his four-match ban but Brandon King, who scored 31 in the first T20I, might get another chance. He managed just 17 runs against Afghanistan but came good against India. It will be a tough call to keep the vice-captain out of playing XI but Pooran might not be back in the playing XI.
