India vs West Indies 2nd Test : The Good, Best and Ugly

India v West Indies 2nd Test Day 2

India vs West Indies 2nd Test : The day will be remembered for not the quality of cricket played but for the one fifty among the tons and a five wicket haul. Sachin Tendulkar might have played his last innings of his career considering the weakness of the West Indian side.

In this piece of article, we look at the brighter and darker side of the Day2, 2nd Test of India vs. West Indies.

The Best: Rohit Sharma and Shane Shillingford .

We have witnessed the journey of the Maggie man to the Hit man. Rohit Sharma is in form of his life this year considering the amount of runs he has piled up both for India and his IPL side, Mumbai Indians. When Rohit Sharma walked in, he had a company at other end but not for long, he was soon batting with the tailenders and he displayed the maturity as a cricketer. Taking most part of the strike, he attacked the bowlers to get a solid lead and succeeded in that. Rohit Sharma is the second Indian cricketer to score centuries in first two test Innings. He is hungry for more and he might be the Player of the series if Ashwin doesn’t disturb the timber much tomorrow.

Shane Shillingford is the only positive the West Indian side has seen in this subcontinent tour. He has the variations and he has utilized them to shear perfection so far. Arm balls, Doosras and he has five consecutive five wicket hauls. May be, West Indies would have been in a better situation if he had someone to assist from the other end.

The Good: Sachin Tendulkar and Cheteshwar Pujara

Fewdays earlier, I expressed my wish through an article that all I hope for in the final Test match is to witness few straight drives and some runs of Sachin’s bat and it has come true today. Sachin Tendulkar looked in a good nick and registered his 68th half century and 10th against West Indies. He was dismissed on 74 by Deonarine edging a ball to Sammy who resisted to celebrate. The crowd went silent, then roared in unison saluting the best cricketer who walked into the dusk.

Cheteshewar Pujara has shown a lot of promise in the past and he continues to live up to the expectations. When all the focus was on Sachin Tendulkar, Pujara was calm at the other end making quite progress. He made his second ton in this venue second time this year.

The Ugly: West Indies batsmen

The diehard fanatics of The Little Master wanted India to declare as soon as possible as West Indies will make some runs and Sachin might bat again. Such is the state of West Indian batting, when they came into bat, all they needed to do was save the wicket for the next day but they started falling like a pack of cards and as many as three wickets in the short span of play.
