India vs Windies, 2018: 3rd ODI – Statistical Highlights 1

Windies beat India by 43 runs in the third One-Day International at Pune to level the five-match series 1-1. 

Put in to bat first, Windies put up a competitive total of 283 for 9. Shai Hope, fresh off the century in the last game, once again top-scored for his team by scoring 95. Ashley Nurse then helped the side finish the proceedings with the bat on a high by slamming 40 off 22.

In reply, India were all out for 240 despite captain Virat Kohli scoring yet another ton.

Here is a look at all the interesting numbers and statistics from the third ODI:

1. Virat Kohli scored 107 runs in the game which is the highest score by an Indian captain in a losing cause in ODIs. The previous highest was 93. Mohammad Azharuddin and Sachin Tendulkar had scored 93 against Australia in the 1992 Brisbane ODI and Pakistan in the 2000 Hobart ODI respectively.

2.  Virat Kohli became the first Indian to score three consecutive centuries in ODI cricket. Overall, he is the 10th player to score a hat-trick of ODI hundreds.

3. The 29-year old is also the first skipper to score three consecutive ODI centuries.

4. This was Kohli’s sixth century in a losing cause and second at home.

5. Kohli now has scored three centuries in a bilateral ODI series for the second time. He scored three 100s during the six-match ODI series in South Africa this year. He is the only Indian player to hit three tons in a bilateral ODI series.

6. Windies’ innings was studded with 12 sixes. The 12 sixes are the second most by them in an ODI against India. They hit a total of 13 sixes in the 2011 Chennai ODI.

7. Windies batting sensation Shimron Hetmyer has already hit 16 sixes in the series. He has now equalled Kieran Pollard’s record of most sixes by a Windies player in a bilateral ODI series. Pollard had hit 16 sixes during the five-match home ODI series against Australia in 2012.

8. This was the first time in 19 instances that India failed to chase down a target less than 300 in an ODI. Since failing to chase 190 in the Antigua ODI also against Windies last year, India won 17 of the previous 18 ODI chases where the target was less than 300.
