India vs Windies 2018: Stuart Law Suspended for First Two ODIs
The Windies coach Stuart Law is suspended for the first two One-Dayers against India. Law is fined 100% of his match fees and he is also handed three demerit points. The Windies coach had to pay the price for his inappropriate comments to TV umpire as well as the fourth official in the recently concluded second Test match against India.
In fact, Stuart Law had also received one demerit point and was fined 25% of the match fees in May 2017. Law had received a similar punishment as his tally of demerit points had reached four. This incident had happened in the Dominica Test against Pakistan.
Law found guilty for breaching ICC code of conduct.
Law was found guilty of breaking Level 2 Article 2.7 of ICC code of conduct. It states, “Public criticism of, or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an International Match or any Player, Player Support Personnel, Match Official or team participating in any International Match, irrespective of when such criticism or inappropriate comment is made”.
Meanwhile, Law was irked when Kieran Powell was given out on a soft dismissal. There were doubts whether India’s deputy Ajinkya Rahane had come up with a clean catch or not. The on-field umpire gave the soft signal as out and the third umpire didn’t have any conclusive evidence to overturn the decision.
Therefore, Law who didn’t like the decision went to the room of TV umpire and made inappropriate comments to him. Thus, Law had to deal with the repercussions.
However, Windies went on to lose the first Test match by an innings and 272 and lost the second by 10 wickets. Thus, it was a one-sided affair in the two-match series.
