India vs Windies 2019: MSK Prasad Sheds Light on Hardik Pandya, Prithvi Shaw’s Absence
The selectors for Team India had announced the much-awaited squad for touring party India against the Windies. On Sunday (July 21), the selectors presided by MSK Prasad had revealed India’s squad for all the formats – T20Is, ODIs and Test respectively. Notably, most of the names were expected, but it has also witnessed all-rounder Hardik Pandya and Prithvi Shaw were absent from each of the announced teams.
Meanwhile, India will face the Windies in three ODIs as many T20Is and two Tests. It will be India’s first series-post their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign. The Virat Kohli-led side had topped the charts in the league stage fixtures with seven wins in nine matches. They lost a solitary encounter against hosts and now World Cup champions – England.
Besides, in the semi-final clash, India had lost to New Zealand by 18 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester when batters faltered to chase down the target of 242 runs on a double-paced surface.
Pandya rested for the Windies:
In his press conference, Prasad maintained some of the players had been picked following their India A performance. Thus, Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey were named in the Team India squad.
“Prithvi Shaw is not available… Hardik Pandya has been put to certain programme. So, he is not available” Prasad revealed during a presser at BCCI’s office in Mumbai.
Thus, it gives a fair idea that the selectors didn’t want to put too much pressure on Pandya. The all-rounder had faced a back issue, which might be one of the reasons for his absence.
Furthermore, Hardik has recently partaken in the twelfth edition of the ICC World Cup. He had played a quintessential role both with bat and ball.
Pandya had scored 226 runs in nine innings at an average of 32.39. He had also snared ten wickets in nine matches.
Shaw is missed India A tour to Windies:
The 19-year-old Shaw is still recovering from his hip injury. The Under-19 World Cup-winning skipper Shaw is yet to feature in the professional cricket since facing Chennai Super Kings on 10th of May in the twelfth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Thus, in his absence, Mayank Agarwal has made it to the two-match Test squad for Windies tour.
