India Will Do Well In South Africa And In England, Says Dilip Vengsarkar
Former India skipper Dilip Vengsarkar is confident world number one Test side India can do well when it travels to South Africa and England next year.
India’s performances in overseas Tests this decade is nothing less than disastrous. They were whitewashed 4-0 by England and Australia and went on to lost two more Test series against the same opposition. The then MS Dhoni-led side also lost Test series in New Zealand and South Africa. However, Vengsarkar feels the current team will do very well in the forthcoming series against South Africa and England.
India are yet to lose a Test series under Virat Kohli since he led the team against Sri Lanka in 2015 which was his first full series as captain. India had won that series 2-1 which was their first Test series win in Sri Lanka after 22 years. After that, the Kohli-led side defeated South Africa 3-0 before the mammoth 2016-17 season where they defeated West Indies (2-0), New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1-0) and Australia (2-1). The ongoing season also began with an impressive 3-0 in Sri Lanka, and the Virat Kohli & Co. are looking set to win the ongoing series against the same opposition.
However, with most of the wins coming in friendly conditions, there are apprehensions over whether India can do well in tough conditions. But Vengsarkar is confident the team can do well in overseas matches.
“India is No 1 in the ICC rankings at the moment, and they have beaten every team in the world for that matter. I am sure they will do very well in South Africa and England because we have some outstanding players,” Vengsarkar told the media during a recent event.
“And of course, India is led by a world-class cricketer – Virat Kohli, who is also in great form at the same time. The attack (bowling) also looks very good indeed, so I am confident that we will do well,” added the former Indian captain.
