Minimum Qualification: 5 matches or more
The reason we said unexpected names in the Top 10 would be clear to you now. This is one record where we don’t have the likes of Sachin, Laxman, Dravid topping the list. In fact, from the Top 5 we have 3 batsmen who are currently touring Australia.
Ravi Shastri tops the list as he has scored 622 runs in 10 innings at an average of 77.75, which is the best ever, keeping the qualification in mind. Next up after Shastri is Murali Vijay, his consistent performance in the current series has taken this opening batsmen second in this list. Vijay has scored 976 runs in 14 innings at an average of 69.71 with 4 centuries under his name. Vijay closely lost out on his 5th century as he was dismissed for 99 in the first Test against Australia in Adelaide. Murali Vijay has scored more runs than Virat Kohli despite playing lesser matches than him.
Pujara is another of current Indian cricket team. He ranks 3rd in this list with an average of 60.70 in 12 innings against the Australian team in Test cricket.
