Young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw has shattered multiple records following his scintillating 244-run knock in just 153 deliveries against Somerset in English One-Day Cup. The Youngster was brilliant opening the batting for Northamptonshire to score his second double-century in list A with 24 fours and eight sixes in his innings.
The youngster becomes the highest individual run scorer in the competition history. The 23-year-old shattered the records of Indian legend including Sourav Ganguly after his double century against Somerset. The right-handed youngster scored a century off just 81 balls followed by a double century of just 129 balls. Prithvi Shaw fell just six runs short of 250 runs in his innings against Somerset.
Prithvi Shaw’s 244 runs off 153 balls against Somerset helped his team set a massive total of 415 for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs, which helped them win the match by 87 runs to register their second win in the league stage.
It was the second double hundred for the Indian opener in List A cricket as he previously came for Mumbai in the 2021-22 Vijay Hazare Trophy with 227 runs being his previous best before the game against Somerset. The Indian opener surpassed Ollie Robinson’s previous record of 206 runs for Kent in One-day cricket and scored the highest total on England soil going past the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly’s knock of 183 runs.
If Scoring Like This Can Help My Team To Win, Then I Should Continue This – Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw said that he is aware of his highest List A cricket score while batting for Northamptonshire, as he spoke to his batting partner about it in the middle and asserted that he always tries to win the matches for his team and wants to continue his same form going forward in the tournament.
“The 227 was in my head, to be honest. I spoke to Whitey [Whiteman] when he was there and I told him it’s 227, my highest score. But it was a good team effort all around.
“I always try and win matches for the team and I’m the kind of player who puts my team first and then myself. If scoring like this can help my team to win, then I should continue this,” Prithvi Shaw added.
The right-handed opener made his debut in the senior team in the same year after winning the junior World Cup for India and has represented Men in Blue in all formats, but could not keep his spot in the side due to his inconsistent form and high competition in the team.
