3. Ankit Bawne:
Everything was going right for Maharashtra cricketer Ankit Bawane before BCCI revealed that he had provided inaccurate information about his age. He was supposed to lead the India U-19 team in the World Cup 2012 but was dropped from the team, and Unmukt Chand got the golden opportunity to lead the team to victory in that tournament.
In 2011, before the U-19 quadrangle tournament, the Indian board discovered that the date of birth in Ankit’s passport did not match the one in his birth certificate and the BCCI’s records. His passport stated his DOB as September 01, 1992, while his official date of birth is December 17, 1992. Thus, the age difference made him ineligible for the mega event, and BCCI had no choice but to drop him from the U-19 squad.
Now, the 27-year-old Ankit plays domestic cricket for his state team. He has played 101 first-class, 82 List A and 34 T20s so far.
