Ajinkya Rahane (ODIs)

In January 2018, India captain Virat Kohli backed Ajinkya Rahane to be the number four batsman for World Cup 2019 but six ODIs later; he was dropped from the national squad. Rahane couldn’t make a comeback and hasn’t played an ODI since February 2018. The manner in which he was dropped was a surprising one as the selectors didn’t recall him even when Ambati Rayudu was ruled out of the England series.
Rahane never got Kohli’s backing in limited-overs cricket and only got to play when regulars were absent. In 2017, he finally played five back to back ODIs against West Indies but only when Rohit Sharma was on rest. Even Rohit followed Kohli’s footsteps and kept Rahane out of playing XI, in Sri Lanka series, for Shreyas Iyer.
Team India’s Test vice-captain has been out of ODI team for almost two years now and is unlikely to make a comeback.
