India Women’s team skipper, Mithali Raj has leapfrogged England’s Charlotte Edwards to become the most capped Woman player in ODI’s in the world.
Former England skipper Edwards played 191 WODI’s for the three lions. However, Mithali went past her, as she took the field during the first ODI against England.
Meanwhile, England is currently playing against India in the three-match ODI series at Nagpur.
She was tied at 191 matches with Charlotte Edwards, the former England captain, before the start of the match.
The 35-year old Raj made her debut for India way back in 1999 against Ireland. She hammered a brilliant 114* in her debut match, as India won by 161 runs.
Over the years, Raj has also represented India in ten Test matches and 72 Twenty20 Internationals.
Jhulan Goswami, Raj’s long-time friend, and colleague is at No.3 on the list of most-capped players in WODIs. However, England’s Jenny Gunn the only other active player in the top-five list.
Moreover, Raj also topped Edwards to become the highest scorer in women’s ODIs in the past year. During the ICC Women’s World Cup last year, the prolific batswoman became the first women cricketer to score 6000 ODI runs.
Incidentally, with her 192nd appearance, Raj also completed 50 ODIs against England. Meanwhile, since her debut, she had only missed 13 ODIs. She has featured in 75.19 percent of all ODIs the India women’s team have ever played (since 1978).
However, India will like to start the series on a high after a disastrous series against Australia. The Aussies whitewashed India and defeated them in the T20I tri-series involving England.
