The Indian team for the Bangaldesh tour for both One day Internationals and Test matches has been announced by the BCCI just few minutes ago. There were speculations that the seniors would be rested for the tour but they have done a good job of selecting the best possible 15. I must admit bothe squads (ODI and Test) are very strong close to ful strength barring Mohammed Shami who is injured. The tour comprises of one Test match and three One day Internationals. In the test match Harbhajan is included in the Test squad as the third spinner.
The test team comprises of Virat Kohli the captain, KL Rahul, Vijay, Dhawan, Pujara, Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Saha the wicketkeeper, Ashwin, Harbhajan, Karn Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron and Ishant Sharma.
The One day International squad for three One day Internationals are MS Dhoni the captain, Rohit Sharma, Rahane, Dhawan, Kohli, Raina, Rayadu, Ashwin, Jadeja, Axar Patel, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, Binny and Kulkarni.
This team looks a good and settled side to take on a confident Bangladesh side who have been in good form beating Pakistan 3-0 in ODI, though they lost the two Test series 1-0. The Test team has surprise the return of Harbhajan Singh who has done well in this year’s IPL edition. He has made a comeback in the team after a long time. The batting looks solid in both One day Internationals and Test matches.
The One day Internationals team is the same team which played the World Cup and went till the semi-final where they lost to eventual winners Australia. With Dhoni in charge of One day International team, Indian team has a chance of stamping the authority on the Bangladesh team. As far as the Test squad is concerned this team needs time and if they play to the potential then they can beat Bangladesh team easily. The batting looks solid and the bowling also has some depth with Ashwin finally producing goods.
The Indian team has done very well in the past with the team reaching the semi finals of World Cup 2015 after a disappointing Test and ODI tour of Australia. Indian team has been going through a tough phase in Test cricket and that’s why the Indian test team did not change. It is important that the Test team does well in the one off match to get the confidence for the coming series against Sri Lanka and South Africa. The performance of Vijay in Test matches has been excellent against Australia and deserved the spot. Dhawan, who was in poor form during Test in Australia, however, could have been replaced. This team has the capacity to perform much better. Virat Kohli did a great job as a leader in the Test matches against Australia. He played some positive cricket and almost won the match for India in the first Test against Australia. Pujara who looked out of sorts will be looking to make an impression after a bad tour of Australia. Raina who was out of form in the Test match he played in Australia that’s why he was dropped, also Jadjea’s performance in Test matches dipped so that’s why Indian selectors dropped him from the squad. Harbhjan has made a comeback in the team after the layoff of 2 years because of the performance in the current IPL. He has bowled with control and has taken wickets. In the spin department India looks settled with the likes of Ashwin and Karn Sharma. Ashwin has improved as a bowler while Karn Sharma needs time to settle. In the One day International squad the Indian selectors could have given chance to some youngsters who have done well in IPL 8 like Sheryas Iyer, Chahal, Jadhav and Robin Uthappa. The team selected for Bangladesh tour has been selected keeping in mind the recent form of the Bangladesh. The One day International team looks far more settled with Rohit Sharma, Dhawan, Kohli, Rahane, Raina and captain MS Dhoni himself. The Indian team has done well in One day Internationals. With lots of cricket coming up the Indian selectors should have given chances to youngsters for grooming them at internationals stage.
With lots of options available in the One day International team Indian team can beat Bangladesh easily. The spinners are also good with the likes of Ashwin and Jadeja who have been India’s go to men in the middle overs.
With full-strength Indian team touring I wouldn’t be surprised if India whitewashed their noisy neighbours.
Predicted Score-line (test match): 1-0.
Predicted Score-line (ODI series): 2-1.
