India has been on the winning ways in the on going World Cup as they have won each of their five matches. Not only that, India managed to bowl out the opposition in less than 50 overs in each of the matches.
Also, India has qualified for the quarter finals as the top team from Pool B. Recently, they had a thumping victory over Ireland by 8 wickets. Ireland fought well but could not manage to counter India’s brilliance.
The former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar was however impressed by the performance of the Irishmen. He said that Ireland showed a lot of confidence and grit in the match and did not give up even when Indian openers were cruising at the start.
March 10 is surely a memorable date to the former Indian skipper, Sunil Gavaskar. On this very day in 1985, he led the Indian Cricket team to a victory in the Benson and Hedges World Series in Australia. When he was being reminded of that in an interview, he refused to compare the current Indian team to that of the one in 1985. He also said that it is difficult to compare teams from different eras.
However, as a matter of fact, Gavaskar was quick enough to point out the only blind spot in the Indian team. He said that the Indian team still lacks a quality all-rounder.
He also stated the fact that if the current Indian team possessed someone like Kapil Dev, it would have been tough to beat them.
He even said that if it was not Kapil, someone close to Ravi Shastri or Mohinder Amarnath or Madanlal would have done the trick for India quite impressively.
Also, former Indian batsman, VVS Laxman agreed to Gavaskar and admitted of the fact even with the absence of such an all-rounder in the team, Indian team has been performing incredibly well in the ongoing World Cup.
And Dhoni’s leadership has contributed majorly for India’s success.
Gavaskar said of the fact that Dhoni does not stick to just a single plan. He is a master at being highly flexible with his plans.
Gavaskar added that Dhoni has always been aware of what to do and perhaps that has been the hallmark of his captaincy. Gavaskar concluded by saying that he is proactive in limited overs cricket and is a brilliant observer of situations.
