While the teams like South Africa and Zimbabwe are all set to create history by playing a four-day Test late this year, the Indian team seems to be not taking any step like this future, as a BCCI official has confirmed that India is opposed this format of the game,
“India will not play any four-day Test matches, atleast in the near future. Any Test match involving India will be a five-day affair. The BCCI believes that there is a lot of merit in Anil Kumble-led Cricket Committee’s recommendations that duration should not be tinkered with. But since four-day Test matches are bi-partite agreements, if two nations are okay, they will go ahead with it,” a BCCI official told PTI.

The idea of a four day Test match was recently floated by South Africa when they invited Zimbabwe for a four-day Test. There were doubts whether ICC would give the game official status or not but South Africa received a green signal in an ICC meet in the previous week. Though their players had already objected the idea and this game might be one of the games that will get played on the four-day basis.
Earlier, there were reports of Ireland laying Pakistan in a four-day game next year, but it got confirmed that Ireland would make its Test debut against the same team but in a five-day Test match.

Many of the teams are also not in favour of this move, and we might not see this idea getting bigger and better.
Meanwhile, to increase the viewership of Test cricket, ICC had announced an ICC Test championship, where a total of nine teams will play each other after the end of 2019 World Cup. The final will be played after two years, the dates of which are yet to be confirmed.
Through this process, ICC has ensured that every team should go towards a win so as they can get points and move ahead in the points table.
