INDIA’S BEST ODI XI OF 1990s 1
  1. SOURAV GANGULY

Hailed as the “Lord of the Offside” or “Prince of Kolkata”, Sourav Ganguly had a certain elegance to his batting. Ganguly relied more on his exquisite timing rather than power hitting. The southpaw was sublime with his stroke play through the offside.

Ganguly had a penchant for spinners and often stepped down the track to hit them for big sixes. Although he had his technical flaws against short pitch bowling, he was resilient enough to become a prolific opener for India during that time frame. Ganguly formed a formidable opening pair with Sachin Tendulkar which scripted many victories for the Indians.

Ganguly had the knack of breaking partnerships with his medium pace, which came in very handy in swinging conditions.
