The Indian skipper was a classy batsman who made batting look easy. Azharuddin had a silken touch to his batting courtesy his wristy strokeplay. Azhar was a master at maneuvering the ball in the gaps through his trademark flicks. Once Azhar had his eye in, he could launch into any attack by unveiling a range of shots. Azhar worked extremely hard on his fitness which clearly reflected in his spectacular fielding.
Azhar was perhaps the best all-round fielder in his time. He was a safe slip catcher and extremely quick off the turf. His signature flick throw became quite popular among the Indian fans. Azhar led the team with distinction all through the 90’s and made the Indian side a force to reckon with at home.
