India’s Predicted XI Against England For Vizag Test

After whitewashing New Zealand 3-0 in the Tests lately, team India’s march was cut short by England as both the sides settled for a draw in the first Test at Rajkot.

Virat Kohli-led India will now be eyeing to put up a much improved performance when both sides will lock horn in the second Test at Visakhapatnam, starting November 17th.

Here’s a look at the predicted playing XI for India in the second Test:

  1. Murali Vijay – Arguably India’s most consistent opener in recent years, Murali Vijay seems likely to retain his place in the squad for the 2nd Test. Smashing an impressive hundred (126) in the first innings of the Rajkot Test, Vijay looked rock solid with his ever composing technique during his time at the crease.

2. KL Rahul – His late inclusion in the squad would surely bother Gautam Gambhir’s fans as the right-handed batsman is all set to open alongside Murali Vijay. Rahul missed the last two Tests against New Zealand after suffering a hamstring injury in the Kanpur Test. However, he’s all set to mark his return on the back of a hundred in the Ranji Trophy tie against Rajasthan. Gambhir’s poor run in his last outing might just keep him waiting for his turn, again.

3.  Cheteshwar Pujara –  One of the two centurion for India in the first Test, Cheteshwar Pujara seems certain to retain his place in the playing eleven. Looking in good touch, Pujara dominated both pace and spin as he hammered 17 boundaries during his knock of 124 runs in the first innings.

4. Virat Kohli – The Indian Test skipper will yet again take charge in second Test. The 28-year-old was unlucky to get out hit-wicket in the first innings, thus making him the second Indian captain after Lala Amarnath to get out in such fashion. His knock in of 49* in the second innings says something about his grit and determination, as he held on his nerves to deny England a win on Day 5.

5. Ajinkya Rahane – One of India’s most prominent batting prospect, Ajinkya Rahane was not up-to the mark in Rajkot. His scores of 13 and 1 in both the innings hardly did any good to India. Apart from that, he looked sloppy on the field too as he dropped a couple of catches. However, banking on his experience, Rahane will fit the number fifth spot in the playing eleven in the second Test.

6. Ravichandran Ashwin – After making headlines for claiming bulk of wickets in the New Zealand Tests, Ravichandran Ashwin had a dry run with a ball in the first Test. The bowling all-rounder only managed to bag three wickets in the match. In bating, he looked dominant as he scored 70 and 32 in the both the innings respectively. Considering his current form, he will be Virat’s go to bowler in the next Test, yet again.

7. Wriddhiman Saha – Claimed by many to be India’s best glove-man behind the stumps right now, Saha will seal the keepers spot in the eleven. His contribution with bat counted only 44 in the match while he dropped few catches too. With not much to offer on his side, Saha will still be someone to look out for India during the second Test.

8. Ravindra Jadeja –  Likewise Ravichandran Ashwin, the slow left-arm bowler also took three wickets in the match. In the first innings, his figures were 4/80 while in second, he went wicket-less. In batting, he struck 44 runs runs. With him being the only left-arm spinner in the squad, Jadeja is likely to retain his place.

9. Amit Mishra – The third chosen spinner in the playing eleven, Amit Mishra is likely to make the cut despite a not so good run in the first Yest. Claiming just one wicket in the first innings, Mishra got lucky to grab two wickets in his kitty in the second one, including the crucial one of Joe Root. With the wrong one being his main arsenal, Mishra might come in handy for the host in the Vizag Test.

10. Mohammed Shami – Regarded as one of India’s fine fast bowlers, Mohammed Shami was one of the two pacers who was selected for the Rajkot Test match. With just two wickets in both the innings to his name, Shami didn’t convince many with his bowling. However, banking on his ability to rattle any batting line-up on his day, the right-arm medium fast bowler is likely to be picked for the second Test

11. Ishant Sharma – After considering the inconsistency of speedster Umesh Yadav, return of the lanky fast bowler, Ishant Sharma in the playing squad is very much on the cards. Ishant, who missed the New Zealand Tests due to Chikungunya, will eye to leave a mark on his return to International cricket. His experience in the cricketing circuit will surely boost the bowling line-up, who looked distorted against visitors in the first Test.
