Smriti hurt her knee while bowling as she landed awkwardly and now remains unlikely to be the part of the side for the remainder of the tournament. The injury also raises questions on her availability for the upcoming ICC World Cup Qualifiers which begins from February 7 in Sri Lanka.
Mandhana, who was helped off the field after picking up the injury, will undergo scans on Monday.
“The Heat’s seven-wicket loss was further soured by an injury to international player Smriti Mandhana, who was helped off Allan Border Field after she fell awkwardly while bowling”, a report on the side’s twitter handle suggested.
It also added, ‘Mandhana will have scans on her knee tomorrow but the Heat are concerned she has played her last game before her scheduled return to India for preparations for the ICC Women’s World Cup (Qualifiers)’.
Well, this isn’t the first time Brisbane Heat has lost a player. Earlier also, West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin also suffered few cheekbone fractures and was ruled out.
