India’s Tour Of West Indies 2019: 5 Expected Changes In India’s ODI Squad
India’s Tour Of West Indies 2019: 5 Expected Changes In India’s ODI Squad; After the setback in ICC World Cup 2019, the flamboyant Indian side set to tour West Indies to play Windies across the formats. Meanwhile, there are a lot of changes to expect in the Indian team.
With the regular players set to take a rest from the tour to West Indies, there are quite a few youngsters, who would get the nod for the upcoming tour. The likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah would most probably stay away from the tour, which would help the selectors to try out a new set of players.
5. Shreyas Iyer in place of Dinesh Karthik:
Dinesh Karthik got the glorious chance to play a career-defining knock in the semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2019. But, unfortunately, he couldn’t make it, as James Neesham took a stunner of the catches to dismiss him.
Shreyas Iyer is a tried and tested cricketer. However, the 24-year-old lad from Mumbai has never got adequate opportunities. He has represented his nation six times in ODIs so far. In those matches, he has scored 210 runs at an average of 42, and a strike rate of nearly 100. Even after his impressive performances, he was dropped out of the team.
It has been a year and a half since Iyer last wore the blue jersey, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he is out of the picture. He is very much in the scheme of things and is now a skipper of his IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals.
Currently, he got selected in the India A side to take on the West Indies A team. Iyer struck 77 runs in the very first match, to justify his selection in the team, and also register his name in the selectors’ notebooks.
