‘Indisciplined’ Umar Akmal makes a comeback in One day format

The Pakistan selectors have forgiven the undisciplined lad Umar Akmal and have recalled him for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies to be played in U.A.E. from September 30. Akmal was not the part of Pakistan team that travelled England due to disciplinary issues. He was also not included in the camp which was organised prior to this tour.

Akmal was included in T20 squad earlier and now has marked a comeback in ODI squad as well. He along with Ahmad Shehzad was reprimanded by PCB for their undisciplined show in the Pakistan cup that was played after T20 World Cup.

Both of them were termed troublesome by then head coach of Pakistan, Waqar Younis. Since then they have been dropped but last month board officials had a one to one talk with them and decided to give them another chance. Akmal has made his comeback whereas Shehzad is yet to make a comeback.

Along with Akmal, Asad Shafiq has also made a comeback in the team as the latter was dropped from the team after consistent failures. He performed well in List A cricket and forced his way back into the national team.

The experienced fast bowler Umar Gul has been dropped as he could not live up to the expectations in England. The former long-time spearhead of Pakistan bowling attack could just scalp 3 wickets in 3 ODI’s. Though, he scalped 3 wickets in an ODI against Ireland. Along with him, Sami Aslam has also been dropped. He played well in the Test series against England but failed to lay any impact in ODI series that followed.

Captain Azhar Ali retains his captaincy; probably this is the last chance for him to prove himself.

Injured Mohammed Hafeez has not been included for the One-day matches. He was sent back to Pakistan from England due to fitness issues. He was to recover for this series but now according to the reports he may miss the Test series as well.

Pakistan has already won 3 matches T20I series by a margin of 2-0 with 1 match still to go.  3 ODI clashes will follow the T20 final game. 3 Test matches series will mark the end of West Indies stay in U.A.E.

Pakistan squad: Azhar Ali (capt), Sharjeel Khan, Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed (vice-capt), Umar Akmal, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Nawaz, Imad Wasim, Yasir Shah, Rahat Ali, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Sohail Khan,
