Pakistan cricket fans are in for a delight as sources close to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the board is in talks with their counterparts to bring international cricket back to Pakistan by mid-2017.
Pakistan has been forced to host their games at UAE since 2009 after the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore. The big teams have not played a single game in Pakistan due to security concerns and PCB are keen to take back the game to Pakistan by next year.
PCB are in talks with Sri Lanka and West Indies cricket boards over a potential series after the end of Pakistan Super League 2017.
“Yes, top PCB officials are engaged in talks with their counterparts in West Indies and Sri Lankan cricket boards and hopefully one of the teams from these countries will tour Pakistan after the conclusion of Pakistan Super League (PSL),” a PCB source quoted in APP.
There are also suggestions that PCB is planning to host the final of PSL 2017 in iconic Gadaffi Stadium at Lahore. However, the source has not confirmed on the matter but previously PCB executive committee chief Najam Sethi has hinted about the prospect on a TV show.
“We are in the process, as we speak, of finalising the dates [of the series]. I won’t say much more than that. And I hope we will give you some good news, soon,” the PCB chief executive had quoted.
The arrival of international cricket would be a huge boost to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as well as Pakistan Cricket Fans who are looking to see their national team clash against another top team since 2009. Only Zimbabwe has managed to travel in Pakistan since the incident but the fans would be delighted if bigger teams like Sri Lanka or West Indies can finally go to Pakistan and play cricket there.
