Intikhab Alam questions Inzamam-ul-Haq’s stay in England
Former Pakistan skipper Intikhab Alam has raised a question mark over chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq‘s presence with the national team in England. Alam has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board for allowing Inzamam to stay in England at its expense.
Alam slams PCB on Inzamam’s stay
“Once the selection committee has selected the team, the captain and coach take over to select the playing 11 and decide on the tour matters,” Intikhab told the Dawn. “So what is the role of Inzamam-ul-Haq there and why has the PCB allowed him to go on an official visit and interfere,” he questioned.
Pakistan’s cricketers have been refrained from being active on social media after their humiliating loss against India. Sarfaraz Ahmed’s men have struggled to win games in the ongoing tournament. They have won just one game- against England and lost four of the other clashes.
Alam also pointed a finger at the team management saying that the think tank is responsible for Pakistan’s horrific run at the World Cup. According to him, poor planning has led to this situation. “They should have a solid strategy against each team, complete knowledge about the kind of pitches in the mega event, the weather conditions and weaknesses and strengths of their rivals. Sadly, none of that has been on display and the performance of the Pakistan team so far shows that no comprehensive game-plan was ever in place,” he added.
He also urged the board to call for an immediate inquiry against players who were seen at restaurants late night before their clash against India. “It is wrong as the players are on their national duty and there must be a discipline to be followed strictly,” said Alam. The side will take on an out of form South Africa on June 23. Currently, the men in green are placed at the ninth spot.
