IPL 10: Reason Behind AB de Villiers’ Success Is A Phone Call!

Ab de Villiers started his inning slowly; Bangalore, his team, was under pressure when he came out to bat. RCB had already lost skipper Shane Watson, a young Vishnu Vinod and Kedar Jadhav inside five overs. AB then took control of the innings with Mandeep Singh. Though they were too slow to build innings as in 15 overs RCB’s score was just 71 runs with four wickets lost.
But then a call could do such wonder, nobody would have expected. AB de Villiers, while talking to commentators in between the match said, he did surprise himself with his performance. AB de Villiers, in last three overs he faced, scored 58 runs with his pure class batting. He smashed eight sixes in last 18 balls he faced. Though RCB lost to King XI Punjab but AB de Villiers yet again proved his worth.
When Sanjay Manjarekar asked AB de Villiers about his comeback as most of the players initially find it difficult. So, what was the reason AB de Villiers didn’t look rusty at all?
To which he responded:
“I did surprise myself. It is more of a mental thing than anything. It is not like you become a bad player overnight. The rustiness you refer to, is more of a self doubt which was there for a few days back.”
Ab de Villiers revealed that self-doubt was vanished by a phone call to his wife,
“I called my wife just before the game, telling that I am doubting myself. But I surprised myself and played a few good shots”
When he was further asked by Melaine Jones about what advise she gave, he told
“She was actually lying next to my son, sleeping when I asked for advice. She called back a few minutes later, told me that she backed me and to stay calm, She is on her way, She is arriving tomorrow and that was the inspiration.”
Ab de Villiers in a chat also revealed he doesn’t love to face Morne Morkel in the nets and in RCB camp he doesn’t want to face Young Aussie bowler, Billy Stanlake. Ab Devilliers also expressed that playing for Titans in domestic cricket was motivating for him.
