IPL 10: Rishabh Pant Joins Delhi Daredevils After Performing Last Rites Of Father
Showing the commitment and professionalism of highest order, Delhi Daredevils youngster Rishabh Pant has joined the team just hours after performing the last rites of his deceased father.
According to news reports, his father Rajendra Pant passed away in his sleep on Wednesday night due to a cardiac arrest. The 19-year old learned about the tragic incident on Wednesday night while he was with the Daredevils team in New Delhi and left the team for his hometown in Roorkee, on Thursday morning to be with his family.
But putting his personal grief behind, he joined the Delhi Daredevils camp ahead of their opening clash of this year’s edition against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Delhi-based outfit, which has not managed to make it to the playoffs in the last four years, is already missing some key players. Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy have been ruled out of the entire tournament while Shreyas Iyer (chicken pox) and Angelo Mathews (calf injury) are set to miss the initial games and in such a scenario Pant’a arrival will be a big boost for them as they would be looking to kick start the tournament on a positive note.
Paddy Upton, Delhi Daredevils head coach, confirmed that Pant would join the team ahead of the match.
“Rishabh is joining us sometime in the evening,” Upton said just before Pant’s arrival in Bangalore.
Upton, who had worked as the mental conditioning coach of the India team in the past, further said that the player would receive the support from the whole team.
“The whole team will rally around Rishabh and give him support. He is a young man. It is very, very difficult, particularly when this happens in the family,” the South African said.
Meanwhile, some reports are also suggesting that the youngster suffered burn injuries on his leg while performing the last rites, which may force him to miss Daredevil’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday (April 8).
