IPL 2015: Mumbai Indians register their first win of the tournament
Finally defending Champions Mumbai Indians managed to pull off a victory in the ongoing IPL as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 18 runs in a high scoring clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. With this win, Mumbai move to the seventh place with Bangalore slipping to the last spot.
Chasing 210 to win, Bangalore began slowly as opener Chris Gayle looked completely out of sorts. His partner Manvinder Bisla though scored a quick-fire 20 before he was castled by Harbhajan Singh. Gayle survived two dropped catches but those didn’t matter because Harbhajan had the better of him as Gayle was bowled for a 24 ball 10. Mumbai executed their plan perfectly to keep the Jamaican at bay. Skipper Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthick too were dismissed off Mitchell McClenaghan and Lasith Malinga for 18 each before Rilee Rossouw was dismissed for a duck by Harbhajan.
AB de Villiers fought a lone hand as he smashed the Mumbai bowlers all over the park in his 11 ball 41. Bangalore’s hopes of winning the match were dashed when Jasprit Bumrah had AB de Villiers caught by Kieron Pollard at long-on. Iqbal Abdulla and David Wiese put some fight in the end with a 58 run partnership in the last six overs but that wasn’t enough to take their side over the line. Wiese remained unbeaten on 47. Harbhajan was the pick of the Mumbai bowlers with figures of 3-28 in his four overs.
Earlier put into bat, Mumbai scored a massive 209 on the board courtesy fine fifties from Lendl Simmons and Unmukt Chand. Simmons scored 59 while Chand pitched in with 58. It was Rohit Sharma’s 15 ball 42 made the difference in the end. Harbhajan was named the Player of the match.
