IPL 2016: Five turning points of Gujarat Lions vs Sunrisers Hyderabad
- Partnership between Raina and McCullum
Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and choose to field. The inform batsmen Aaron Finch was dismissed in the first over itself by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. All Sunrisers bowlers did an excellent job to restrict the Gujarat Lions batting line-up. Expect for Raina who was looking in good touch, the other Gujarat Lions batsmen struggled against Sunrisers bowlers. Deepak Hooda the spinner picked the wicket of Dinesh Karthik while Rahman bowled an exceptional spell giving away only 19 runs and picking 1 wicket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the best bowler picking 4 wickets for 29 runs out of which 3 were in the last over which halted the progress of Gujarat Lions batting. At the end of 20 over Gujarat, Lions scored 135 for 8.

Raina came at the crease at the fall of Finch wicket in the first over. He hit a boundary off the very first ball itself. Raina looked in complete control hitting good strokes off the pacers and spinners also. When wickets were falling on the other end Raina holds the fort and really showed the way. He completed his 50 off 34 balls and continued to fight for his team. He was dismissed in the last over before scoring a well-made 75. He ran between wickets well and put pressure on Sunrisers Hyderabad fielders.
- Quickfire starts by Sunrisers openers
Chasing a target of 136, the Sunrisers openers got off to a quick start. David Warner continued his good form smashing boundaries off Dale Steyn while Shikhar Dhawan took his time to settle down. In the first four overs, Sunrisers scored 48 runs out of which 36 was from David Warner. David Warner punished the bad balls for boundaries which put Gujarat Lions bowlers under tremendous pressure. David Warner by doing this brought the required rate down. David Warner completed his half-century off 29 balls while Shikhar Dhawan struggled to time the ball. Both openers played some wonderful strokes and put on 100 runs stand for the first wicket. Both of them completed the job and helped Sunrisers to register their second victory of the tournament. Shikhar Dhawan remained not out on 53 which will increase his confidence for remaining matches.
- David Warner continuing his excellent form
As in the previous match against Mumbai Indians, David Warner showed his way by hitting a brilliant knock again to led Sunrisers to a comfortable victory. He attacked the bowler’s right from the start and did not allow the bowlers to settle. In the first few overs, David Warner made sure that Sunrisers was on course for a victory. He completed his half century off 29 balls and remained not out on 74 off 49 balls which helped Sunrisers register a thumping victory over Gujarat Lions.
