IPL 2016: Five turning points of KKR vs Delhi Daredevils

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Delhi Daredevils by 9 wickets in the second match of the IPL 2016 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata few minutes ago. It was a dominating display by Kolkata Knight Riders who outplayed Delhi Daredevils in all departments. KKR started their IPL 9 season with crushing win over weak Delhi outfit.

Blistering start by Delhi openers

Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and choose to bowl. The Delhi openers De Kock and Mayank Aggarwal started the innings off to an aggressive note scoring 23 off first 2 over’s. In the first over both of them scored 13 runs while in the second over De Kock smashed Umesh Yadav for a boundary and six. It was an excellent start by the Delhi openers who gave the team a flying start to the team.

Sudden collapse

After a quick-fire start for Delhi Daredevils, they lost wickets at regular intervals which put pressure on the Delhi batsmen. De Kock was the first batsmen to be dismissed at the score of 24. None of the Delhi Daredevils batsmen were not able to put resistance which put consistent pressure on them. Only De Kock, Samson, Negi and Chris Morris reached double figures. Delhi Daredevils were bowled out for 98 in 17.4 overs.

Excellent bowling by Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers

Kolkata Knight Rider’s bowlers did an excellent job by restricting the Delhi Daredevils batsmen.  Every bowler contributed especially the spinners bowled consistent lines and length. Apart from Umesh Yadav, all other bowlers picked wickets. Brad Hogg and Andre Russell picked 3 wickets each while Chawla and Hastings picked 2 wickets each. The spinners put the brakes by restricting the runs and also picking wickets at regular intervals. As a result, Kolkata Knight Riders bowled out Delhi for 98.

Superb start by Kolkata Knight Riders

Chasing a paltry total of 99, KKR openers Gambhir and Uthappa gave the team a flying start. They played some excellent shots which put the Delhi Daredevils bowlers under pressure. In the first 3, over’s Uthappa and Gambhir scored 6 fours among them. Uthappa and Gambhir looked in good touch. In the first four, over’s KKR scored 36 and they continued to play wonderful strokes. In the first six over’s KKR looked in control scoring 47 runs. KKR openers made sure that they were course off winning the match with ease.  Uthappa was the first wicket to fall at the score of 69. He scored 35 runs.

Weak bowling by Delhi Daredevils

Defending a low total of 99, Daredevils bowlers needed to pick early wickets to put pressure on KKR batsmen. All the bowlers went for runs and were unable to restrict the KKR batsmen. Amit Mishra was the only wicket taker. The Delhi Daredevils needed special effort but could not restrict the KKR batsmen. KKR won the match by 9 wickets with 35 balls to spare.
