IPL 2016 match 3: Five turning points of Kings XI Punjab vs Gujarat Lions
The debutant Gujarat Lions started their IPL 9 tournament on a winning note beating Kings XI Punjab by 6 wickets at Mohali just a few moments ago. It was an excellent performance by Gujarat Lions bowlers especially Dwayne Bravo who was the pick of the bowler. Gujarat Lions batsmen chased down the target with ease.
Strong opening stand by Kings XI Punjab openers
Gujarat Lions won the toss and choose to field. Kings XI Punjab openers Murali Vijay and Manan Vohra started off slowly in the first two over’s scoring 13 runs. After that Manan Vohra and Vijay scored runs at a quick pace which put Gujarat Lions bowlers under pressure. In the first six over’s both of them put on 52. After the powerplay over’s Vijay and Manan Vohra continued to put pressure on Lions bowlers. Vijay and Vohra put on 77 which gave a perfect platform for a big total.
Wickets in the middle overs
After such a good start, the Gujarat Lions made an excellent comeback by picking wickets at important times. In the 9th over Jadeja got the wicket of Manan Vohra. Soon after Jadeja picked another crucial wicket of Vijay who was looking in good touch was dismissed for 42. In the 13th over Dwayne Bravo got 2 crucial wickets of Maxwell and Miller in the same over which stalled the progress of Kings XI Punjab batting. At that time, Kings XI Punjab was 102 for 4.
Dwayne Bravo excellent spell
Dwayne Bravo bowled an excellent spell to restrict the Kings XI Punjab batting. In the first two over’s he gave away only 9 runs and picked 2 wickets. Dwayne Bravo bowled Yorkers and slower ones at will. In the last over of the innings, he gave away 6 runs and picked 2 wickets. He ended with figures of 4 for 22 which restricted the Kings XI batsmen to 161 for 6 in 20 overs.
Gujarat Lions top order strikes rich
Chasing a total of 162, Gujarat Lions innings got off to a worse start losing the wicket of McCullum in the very first over. After that Raina and Finch created pressure on Kings XI Punjab bowlers by hitting boundaries with ease. Raina and Finch played wonderful strokes. Both of them put on 52 in 33 balls which eased the pressure on Gujarat Lions batting. After the fall of Raina wicket for 20 in 9 balls, Aaron Finch played an excellent knock off 74 off 47 balls which helped Gujarat Lions to get closer to the target.
Dinesh Karthik cameo
Dinesh Karthik came to the crease in the 7th over. He played wonderful strokes off the spinners and put 50 runs stand with Aaron Finch. After the loss of Aaron Finch wicket, Dinesh Karthik played an excellent knock off 41 in 26 balls and remained not out. He hit the winning runs by hitting a boundary. His innings helped Gujarat Lions register a win by 6 wickets.
