Sunrisers Hyderabad haven been crowned as the champions of IPL 2016 and they did so by setting a record target for the Royal Challengers Bangalore to win. This was just one such record in the ninth edition of IPL that was broken among many other. Here we are today to bring to you the list of records that were broken and made in IPL 2016 –
TEAM RECORDS
Highest total in IPL Final – 208/7 by SRH is the highest total ever scored by a team in an IPL Final.
Topping with Negative Rate – Gujarat Lions topped the table, yet they had a negative net run rate of -0.374. This is first time a table topper has had a negative NRR in IPL.
41-19 – This is the win loss record of teams chasing in this IPL. This is first time in the history of IPL where the team batting second has won more than double the matches, when compared to the team batting first.
Biggest win by runs – RCB beat GL by 144 runs in the league stage. This is the biggest win in IPL by runs for any team.
2 Centuries for a Team – Both de Villiers and Kohli hit a 100 in the match against GL. This is the 2nd instance in the history of T20 cricket where two players from the same team have hit a century.
Still No Luck – This was the 3rd time RCB reached an IPL Final. They are yet to be crowned the champions even once.
Highest score in Powerplay – Gujarat Lions scored 72 runs in the powerplay against RCB and RPS, this is the highest score a team has got to in the first 6 overs this season.
Lowest defended total – The lowest total defended by a team this season was 137. SRH defended 137 against Rising Pune Supergiants.
BATTING RECORDS
33.9% – 33.9% of the RCB team runs have been scored by Virat Kohli alone in this IPL. Highest ever in the history of IPL. 2nd highest also has come this season by David Warner. He scored 33.3% of SRH runs. Warner scored 848 runs in this season.
Most runs in a T20 Tournament – Virat Kohli scored 973 runs this IPL season. This is the most number of runs ever scored by any batsmen in a T20 Tournament.
Most runs while chasing – Warner scored 468 runs while chasing this IPL. The most by any batsmen in IPL history. Warner bettered the record of Robin Uthappa – he had scored 457 in IPL 2014 while chasing.
Captains among runs – Among the Top 10 runs scorers this IPL season, we have 6 captain featuring in the list. The other two being MS Dhoni and Zaheer Khan couldn’t make it to the list for obvious reasons.
Here a list of captain by the number of runs each have scored (High to Low) – Virat Kohli (RCB), David Warner (SRH), Gautam Gambhir (KKR), Rohit Sharma (MI), Murali Vijay (KXIP) and Suresh Raina (GL).
Most Sixes – Virat Kohli has hit 38 sixes this season, the most. De Villiers was closely behind him with 37. Both these batsmen have accounted for almost 12% of the total sixes hit this season i.e. 638.
Highest Individual Score – 129* by AB de Villiers is the highest individual score by a batsman in IPL 2016. It took just 52 balls for de Villiers to reach this mammoth score.
Centurions in IPL 2016 – Though we have seen 7 centuries this season, we have only 4 centurions who are featured in the list. AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Quinton de Kock and Steve Smith are the only 4 players to hit centuries this IPL. Off the 7, 5 have been scored in Bangalore.
Most Centuries in an IPL Season – Virat Kohli has hit 4 centuries in this season, however he had 0 centuries to his name before the beginning of this season in the history of T20 Cricket. 4 is the most number of centuries hit by a single player in previous IPL seasons.
Most Fifties – With 9 half centuries, Warner has hit the most number of 50’s this season.
Highest Strike Rate in an Inning (min 20 runs) – Sarfaraz Khan has the highest strike rate in a single inning this season. He scored 35 runs off 10 balls against SRH in Bangalore at a Strike Rate of 350%.
Highest Average – Virat Kohli scored runs this season at an average of 81.08. Second on the list is Yusuf Pathan with an average of 72.20. Pathan scored 361 runs in 13 innings. Must say, Pathan has gotten more sensible in his batting now.
Highest Partnership in T20 Cricket – Kohli and de Villiers scored 229 runs for the 2nd wicket. This is the highest ever partnership in the history of T20 Cricket.
Most Sixes in an inning – de Villiers hit 12 sixes in his inning of 129*. This is the most hit by a player in an inning in this IPL.
Most Boundaries – With 88 boundaries, David Warner has hit the most number of centuries this IPL.
Fastest 50 in IPL 2016 – Chris Morris (against GL) and Keiron Pollard (against KKR) hit the fastest 50 of IPL 2016. Both of them took just 17 deliveries to reach their 50.
Fastest Century of IPL 2016 – de Villiers took just 43 deliveries to reach his 100 against GL. This was the fastest 100 in IPL 2016.
Longest Six – Ben Cutting hit a six that went to a distance of 117m. This is the longest six this season.
4K Club – Suresh Raina and VIrat Kohli becomes the first two players to reach the 4000 run mark in IPL.
250+ Sixes – Chris Gayle hit his 250th Six in IPL 2016 and is the only player to hit over 250 sixes in IPL.
8 Century Stands – Gayle and Kohli have 8 century stands among them, the most by any pair. Pair of de Villiers and Kohli is on 2nd position with 7 century stands.
Most Ducks this season – Both Glenn Maxwell and Shreyas Iyer have been out for a duck thrice (3 times) this season.
Hit-Wicket – This is the first in IPL when we witnessed three players being dismissed for a Hit-wicket. Co-incidentally all 3 are from SRH – Deepak Hooda, Yuvraj Singh and David Warner.
Run-out most times – Deepak Hooda was run-out 5 number of times this IPL season, this is the most by a player in any season. Overall Gambhir tops the list of players to be run-out most often in IPL.
BOWLING RECORDS
Lone Spinner – Yuzvendra Chahal is the only spinner to feature in the Top 10 list of highest wicket-takers this season. With 21 wickets Chahal is the 2nd highest wicket-taker this season. This is the 2nd consecutive season where Chahal has topped the list of wicket-takers among all RCB bowlers.
14 and 13 – Dhawal Kulkarni took 14 wickets in the powerplays, this is the most by any bowler this season. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shane Watson took 13 wickets each in the death overs (16-20). This is the best among all bowlers in IPL 2016.
Most Expensive Bowling Spell – Shane Watson gave away 61 runs in 4 overs in the final against SRH. This the most expensive spell this IPL and also the most expensive ever in an IPL Final. On 13 occasions a bowler conceded over 50 runs in their bowling spell this IPL.
Fastest Delivery bowled – Jason Holder (KKR) delivered one delivery at the speed of 150.31 kmh. This is the fastest delivery bowled this season. The only other bowler to clock the speed of over 150 this season was Chris Morris.
Most dot balls bowled in a match – Dwayne Smith bowled 18 dot balls in his spell of 4 overs against KKR. This is the most number of dot balls bowled in a match.
Most dot balls in IPL 2016 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled 156 dot balls in IPL 2016. This is the most a bowler has bowled, no wonder he was also the highest wicket taker this season.
Most Maidens Bowled – Dhawal Kulkarni bowled most number of maiden overs in IPL 2016. He bowled 4 maiden overs in all. In all 19 maiden overs were bowled this season.
Best Bowling Figures – Adam Zampa’s bowling figures of 6/19 is the best for a bowler this season. This is the 2nd best IPL history. Sohail Tanvir picked up 6 wickets for 14 runs.
Most Wickets on a Duck – Andre Russell dismissed 5 batsmen for duck (0), the most for any bowler this season.
FIELDING RECORDS
Most Catches in a T20 tournament – AB de Villiers took 19 catches in IPL 2016, this is the most number of catches taken by a fielder in any T20 tournament.
Most stumping in IPL – With 27 stumping, MS Dhoni has effected most number of stumping in the history of IPL. Dinesh Karthik is one behind with 26 stumping wickets.
