The Royal Challengers Bangalore, despite being such a great unit, have been quite unfortunate to have never been able to claim the coveted Indian Premier League (IPL) title. They came close thrice, the most recent one being the last season, but have ultimately fumbled fatally to settle down with the runners-up medal. While other teams have managed to sort out the perfect combination which could lead them to the title, the RCB have strangely failed to perform at crucial times.
Sometimes, it is due to the failures of the star batsman but they seem to have another huge problem – an imbalanced bowling attack. Traditionally, after the departure of the likes of Anil Kumble and Zaheer Khan, it has been their bowling attack that has been below par.
The franchises – Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders- who have won the titles on previous occasions, had the bowlers with the X-factor apart from a sturdy batting line-up. RCB seem to be missing the former fact a lot. Good all-rounders also seem to be missing from their line-up.
Last season, they missed Mitchell Starc badly and his absence made their bowling attack very weak. This year, he returns but the team still has a few things to mend. They get the opportunity to balance their team in the upcoming IPL auction which is set to take place on February 20. Ahead of the auction, Sportzwiki tries to figure out two names who could probably interest the franchise and can fill the void in the team setup.
