One of the problems for RPS last season was not getting a good start from the openers. They used different opening partners for Ajinkya Rahane but to no avail. The Indian batsman opened alongside Faf du Plessis, Saurabh Tiwary and Usman Khawaja but never managed to forge a successful partnership.

The Pune-based team signed Delhi Daredevils opener Mayank Agarwal in IPL 2017 trading window, but they seriously need to buy a proven player to solve the issue. They need a player who can play a perfect foil to the ever-reliable Rahane, a player who will take the attack to the opposition during the first six overs, something that Rahane has not managed to do. And England opener Jason Roy has the credentials to solve their problem. One of the most dangerous opening batsmen in the world right now, Roy has already proved he has the game plan to succeed in sub-continental conditions. After an impressing outing in the World T20 in India last year, the 26-year-old enhanced his reputation with three consecutive fifties in the recently concluded ODI series against India.

A player who does not shy away from playing his shots, Roy perfectly fits the bill and can prove to be an ideal addition for RPS.
