IPL 2017: Batsmen With Lowest Strike Rate In IPL 2017 (Minimum 70+ balls)

The ongoing IPL 10 season is witnessing something really strange in terms of batting performances.

Several top names have failed to get going and currently possess pretty bad numbers according to their standards. What strikes the mind is that these batsmen have typically been the powerhouses of this format and are capable of tearing apart bowling attacks.

We’re almost through the halfway stage of the league stages but, unfortunately, fans are yet to see any fireworks and meaningful knocks coming off their bats.

A glance at the number tells the story that would leave most of the viewers stunned. At present, the batsman with the lowest strike among players who have faced a minimum of 70 deliveries is MS Dhoni!

The players following him on the list are surprising too, as equally established six-hitters like David Miller, Shikhar Dhawan, Parthiv Patel and Suresh Raina have fallen in the ‘poor hitter’s’ bracket this season.

Dhoni, the former Rising Pune Supergiant skipper, seems to have slipped into a dull phase which has made him look completely off colours. He currently maintains a strike rate of just 87.14 after five matches with only 61 runs at an average of around 15 runs.

MS Dhoni

Dhoni clearly seems to be underperforming, as he also happens to be the only batsman with a sub-100 strike rate. This is also turning out to be the poorest season of his illustrious IPL career which has seen him score runs with strike rate of 137.45 overall.

David Miller

South Africa middle order man David Miller stands at the second position. He currently has a strike rate of 110.81. As of now, it seems that he is just carrying forward the poor season he had last year.

After beginning the tournament with an optimistic unbeaten cameo of 30, Miller failed despite getting starts, managing just 28 and 24 runs in following games.

A lot was expected from the left-hander who entered the tournament with some really inspiring performances in the South Africa domestic scenes.

Shikhar Dhawan

Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Shikhar Dhawan, with a strike rate of 114.28, is another shocking entrant in the list. Dhawan had a poor 2016 as a result of bad form. A stint in the domestic circuit proved to be helpful for him.

Many felt IPL 10 will be Dhawan’s opportunity to stake his claim for his lost place in the Indian team. However, he hasn’t been up to the mark, at least as far as aggression in his batting is concerned.

His cautious approach has got him few functional knocks but his strike has taken a hit.

Parthiv Patel

Mumbai Indians opener Parthiv Patel also has problems identical to that of Miller and Dhawan. The pocket-sized hitter has managed to have starts in two of the five innings he played but has failed to convert those into appreciable digits. So far he has only 91 runs in five matches with a strike rate of 121.33.

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina, with a strike rate of 123.63 in four matches, may not have bothered his fans very much. He also has scored one unbeaten half century and currently is the best batsman of his side Gujarat Lions.

But, what has caught the attention of his fans is his slightly conservative approach which has seen him less play risky shots.

A strike as mentioned above surely doesn’t suit a player who has an overall IPL strike rate of 138 and his best season in 2015 saw him dismantle the bowlers with a strike rate of around 150!
