England’s star all-rounder Ben Stokes has thanked all his supporters who backed him during his time in India. Stokes delivered a message to his fans through an Instagram post before leaving the country to join his national side ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy.
Stokes wrote- “Had an amazing time with the @punesupergiants in this years #ipl10 big last game for me today, hopefully, we can get the win and get through to the finals, thanks to everyone involved and to the fans who have been amazing #rpsg”
Stokes entered the IPL 2017 with a great burden of expectations on his shoulders after being picked as the most expensive overseas player as Rising Pune Supergiant won his bid for 14.5 crores at the auctions.
Initially, it was speculated by many that the seam bowling all-rounder was an inflated purchase who would fail to justify his price tag. However, as the tournament progressed he grew into Pune’s ‘Most Valuable Player.’
Stokes’ miserly bowling performances and stellar batting show played a key role in getting Rising Pune Supergiant’s success this season. In all, he scored 316 runs and snapped 12 wickets in 12 matches. His most memorable performance of the season was the unbeaten knock of 103 off just 67 deliveries which he slammed against Gujarat Lions.
Stokes will now be seen in action wearing the England jersey during the three-match bilateral series against South Africa at home before the start of the much anticipated Champions Trophy which begins from June 1st in England.
Pune, unfortunately, will be without his services during the crunch playoffs games. Earlier, Stokes encountered a slightly amusing situation when he found out his name misprinted as ‘Strokes’ on the Jet airways ticket while travelling from New Delhi to Pune following their match against Delhi Daredevils this weekend.
He uploaded the image of his boarding pass on Instagram, leaving many of fans laughing.
Stokes’ presence on Instagram is a fun thing, actually. He constantly shows his funny side on the social media website to keep his followers engaged. One example of it was the ‘bunny’ post that he uploaded after his teammate Jaydev Unadkat’s hattrick against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The mock of pic of Unadkat’s face edited on a magician picture attracted hilarious responses.
