IPL 2017: Benched XI of The Season So Far

Indian Premier League could be cruel at times as we have witnessed over years that franchises are ready to drop talented names despite signing them in an auction to ensure that the teams are well balanced in the tournament.

Last season we have seen, world’s best bowler Dale Steyn who was hardly used by Gujarat Lions as well as Trent Boult who was used only in one game by Sunrisers and this year is no different as we are yet to witness so many good players who did not make an appearance for their franchise despite being in the second week of the tournament. Here we look at the benched XI of IPL 2017 so far.

#1. Martin Guptill

The talented Kiwi batsman has managed to find a bidder in the form of Kings XI Punjab in the auctions but has been benched so far as Virender Sehwag has opted to play Hashim Amla instead.

#2. Kane Williamson (C)

Kane Williamson can be considered very unlucky to not play for Sunrisers Hyderabad and might not feature much as he is not going to fit into the plans of the defending champions any time soon.

#3. Gurkeerat Mann

The Punjabi batsman has found it tough to break into Kings XI Punjab team this season but could soon feature if Punjab does not improve their batting which has been their problem in their last three losses.

#4. Saurabh Tiwary

The talented southpaw is finding it difficult to break into Delhi daredevils as the team current looks well settled with excellent Indian youngsters who are competing fiercely for places.

#5. James Faulkner

One of the most talented all-rounders in the tournament, James Faulkner was an integral part of his previous franchise Rajasthan Royals but have not managed to get a similar role under Gujarat Lions this season.

#6. Rishi Dhawan

The Indian all-rounder has so far not managed to break into Mumbai Indians lineup as Rohit Sharma is keen to give his major players a long run before making changes to his team.

#7. Eklavya Dwivedi (Wk)

Another talented Indian player, Dwivedi is unfortunately in the wrong team as Gujarat Lions already possess Dinesh Karthik who is their first choice wicketkeeper.

#8. Kagiso Rabida

The impressive Proteas pace bowler, Rabada has been the talking when he picked up big money in the auction but he is yet to play a role for Delhi Daredevils this season.

#9. Pravin Tambe

The oldest player in the cash-rich league, Pravin Tambe has made history when he emerged out of nowhere for Rajasthan Royals a few years ago. However, he is currently warming the bench with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

#10. Mohammad Shami

Another incredible pace bowler, Mohammed Shami is warming the bench at Delhi Daredevils as the franchise are keen to go with Zaheer Khan and Pats Cummins as their pace bowling duo.

#11. Mohammed Siraj

The young Hyderabad pace bowler was in the headlines when he managed an unbelievable 25 million INR in the auction. But he could not manage to get into the team that is packed with extraordinary bowlers.
