IPL 2017: Delhi Daredevils v Kolkata Knight Riders – Match Prediction

The dose of double headers in the IPL is set to continue for one more day as table toppers Kolkata Knight Riders prepare to meet Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. Fresh from wins in their previous encounters, both teams looked completely balanced and ready to challenge each other with full strength XIs at their disposal.

While KKR sits at the top after their superb win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, their spot will be challenged by DD tomorrow as the home side possesses a better net run rate and can jump ahead of KKR to settle at No.1 or No. 2 depending on the result of the Mumbai Indians v Gujarat Lions fixture that takes place on Sunday.

For KKR, it will be about maintaining their form and dominance. KKR, apart from MI, has been the only team wh0cih has thoroughly effective with their performances. And, therefore, this can be their opportunity to rake up another win and stay on top of the points table.

Overview:

DD

DD seems to be finally performing to the potential that was always there in their unit. The young guns are firing ABD have become the main threat to the opposition. The openers Sanju Samson and Sam Billings have wonderful knocks to their name. Shreyas Iyer warmed up nicely and would be ready to show his class while Rishabh Pant and Corey Anderson have been behaving like ticking bombs.

KKR

Barring the shock loss to Mumbai Indians, KKR has been flawless so far. The loss to MI was sort of unjust but KKR has made up for it by winning the following two games emphatically. The only factor worrying will be that there will be no home advantage for them this time and DD has gathered enough steam to pose a real challenge to their quest for dominance.

View on think-tank:

DD

Karun Nair’s struggle to regain the lost form has become quite visible. The Karnataka star has managed only 4 runs in two innings. This stats is not inspiring at all, at least at a time when others around him are constantly improving. Resting him for a few games and letting Maharashtra’s Ankit Bawne try his luck would be a good option.

KKR

The league stage is gaining momentum and KKR must think of trying Rovman Powell or Shakib al Hasan for the all-rounder’s role. The duo certainly is a better option that Colin de Grandhomme who wasn’t been fully utilised in the last two matches where the Kiwi all-rounder got the opportunity. Also, we are set to see Sunil Narine open again. This fact can be trusted going by the words of Robin Uthappa who revealed that this experiment in the top order will continue for sometime.

Tracking the strengths:

DD

DD is lucky to have in-form all – rounders like Corey Anderson and Chris Morris working in tandem with spinners Amit Mishra and Shahbaz Nadeem. This team of four bowlers will most likely cause troubles to the KKR batting attack. Their accuracy, economical bowling and ability to strike regularly should bother KKR to a great extent.

KKR

KKR will be very high on confidence after getting better of the strong SRH side. Led by Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey, KKR put up 172 on the scoreboard and looked very comfortable against the SRH bowling attack which, at the moment, is deemed to be the best in the IPL. This confidence in the batting order will help them cope with the potent DD bowling attack led by veteran Zaheer Khan.

Possibilities of the line-up:

DD

DD did not fiddle with its line-up very much apart from removing Aditya Tare and bringing in the Shreyas Iyer. Iyer will be kept unmoved for the sake of maintaining a consistency in the batting order. Karun Nair’s spot, as mentioned above, will be under scanner.

KKR

Gautam Gambhir has shown his keenness to rotate his wrist spinners – Piyush Chawla and Kuldeep Yadav. The latter got a game recently at the cost of the former. Now, with the KKR ready to face DD on their home turf, the skipper might choose experience and bring in Chawla back in the squad again.

Head to head:

Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils have played 18 matches historically. The Gautam Gambhir-led side holds an advantage as far as the win-loss record is concerned. DD has lost 10 matches against KKR and has managed to win only 8.

Prediction:

The upcoming match is set to be a closely fought contest. The hosts, as well as the challengers, have similar strengths and weakness. It will be pretty tough to predict a clear favourite, but the bets will be on Delhi Daredevils as they play on their home turf.
